Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost to have it applied on my building?
Cost varies depending on many factors. More than a lipstick, but less than a total wall overhaul. Please contact one of our Certified Installers for current pricing with no obligation.
How is the product applied?
Thermal CorkShield™ is spray-applied using a texture sprayer by one of our Certified Installers to ensure quality and consistency, every time.
What colours are available?
We currently have 30+ colours to choose from, each fading on average 1-2% annually. Custom colours are available upon request with select Certified Installers.
Can anyone purchase and spray Thermal CorkShield™?
Exclusive opportunities are available! Contact us directly to discuss how to become a Certified Vipeq Installer. Click here for more.
What type of surfaces will Thermal CorkShield™ stick to?
Because the cork is lined with micro suction-cups that permit it to adhere to the surface without allowing it to slide, it has a High Friction Coefficient, allowing it to adhere to almost any surface! Brick, stucco, wood/composite/metal siding, glass and more. With the exception of vinyl siding, we can coat pretty much anything!
What other uses are there for Thermal CorkShield™?
We have applied to RV roofs and walls (fiber glass and metal), ice fishing shacks, trailers, outdoor furniture, industrial equipment, tanks, and more! Ask your local Installer how Thermal CorkShield might be used on your project.
Is there a warranty?
All Vipeq Thermal CorkShield™ applications done according to the TDS over walls and by a Vipeq Certified Installer include a 15-year Limited Product Warranty.
Is it toxic? Can my pets and I be at home when it is sprayed?
No, we are proud to offer a water-based product with other natural and renewable resources that results in a non VOC and non-toxic formula, even when airborne.
Do pests like it?
NO! Cork is naturally pest and rodent resistant, and when in our Thermal CorkShield performs as an effective stop to chewing, burrowing and pecking. Woodpeckers cannot make noise for mating, chip, nor crack away at Thermal CorkShield, leaving them with no choice but to move on from your home and yard.
What about hail? Will it chip?
NO! Thermal CorkShield stays buoyant in all temperatures, protecting the surface it is sprayed on by deflecting impact and dampening noise.
Can it be repaired?
Absolutely! Consistent, proprietary supply ensures we will always have your colour available when disaster strikes. 10x less fade than traditional paints will make colour matching a breeze. Spray applied for a seamless finish, every time.
Will I have to modify my building to support the product?
No, 88% of Thermal CorkShield™’s volume is air. This translates to a lower density; approx. between 0.12-0.24 quartz/ lb.
Does cork add R-value to my home?
Thermal CorkShield™ works along with an already existing or properly engineered wall as a “Functioning Finish”. Often the R-Value in a wall is compromised by drafts, convection, conduction, or reflection of energy. Vipeq Thermal CorkShield™ projected at a wall fills in gaps and cracks creating a full exterior envelope. Rated with a K-Value similar to windows at 0.058W/mK. Thermal CorkShield™ effectively slows down the transfer of energy, supporting the inner R—value behind it.
Is Thermal CorkShield™ a green product?
With our proprietary water-based resin and natural, renewable cork, we are proud to offer an environmentally friendly and sustainable product.
The bark of the cork tree is removed in portions every 8-10 years by hand, releasing large amounts of oxygen into the environment. The tree will continue to grow for up to 250 years, creating new bark for harvest. Before being mixed into our Vipeq resin, cork is made of 98% air, lessening the burden on fuel for shipping.
Once on a home or building, Thermal CorkShield™ can offer energy savings from 10-50%, depending on the structure’s age and type when applied expertly by a Vipeq Certified Installer.
